ABOUT ERIC NAM

Singer, songwriter, television host, and content creator Eric Nam was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Boston College in 2011 with a major in International Studies and a minor in Asian Studies and he spent a year abroad at Peking University in Beijing, China. He went on to secure a place as a business analyst at Deloitte Consulting in New York City and deferred to participate in microfinance initiatives in India before deciding to pursue a career in entertainment. Nam is fluent in English and Korean, and also speaks Spanish.

CAREER

2011-2012: Beginnings

After uploading a cover song on YouTube that went viral, Nam was invited by MBC to Seoul to to compete on the popular X-Factor style program, "Star Audition:Birth of a Great Star 2". Nam finished in the top five contestants, launching his career in South Korea. He signed to B2M Entertainment on September 25, 2012.

2013-2015: Cloud 9 and hosting

Nam released his debut single, Cloud 9, on January 23, 2013, featuring lead single "Heaven's Door". 2013 also saw him become the host of Arirang TV's interactive K-pop show After School Club, which he presented until 2016, also going on to host its spin-off, The ASC After Show.

In April 2014, Nam released his first digital single, "?? (Ooh Ooh)", followed by "Melt My Heart" in December. That year, he also performed the main stage at the Seoul Jazz Festival.

Nam was featured on Amber Liu's EP Beautiful on the song "I Just Wanna" in February 2015. The following month, he released the single  "I'm OK" and its accompanying music video. May saw the release of  "Dream", featuring 15&'s Park Ji-min for Charity Project. That December, Nam signed an exclusive contract with CJ E&M.

2016-2017: Interview and US release

Nam’s second EP, Interview, was released alongside the lead single "Good For You" on March 24, 2016. March also saw Nam taking part in South Korean record label SM Entertainment’s digital music project SM Station, where the channel released one digital single every Friday for a year starting from February 3, 2016. Nam’s release was  "Spring Love", a duet track with Red Velvet's Wendy.

In April, Nam received some of SNL Korea’s highest ratings of the season when he hosted and performed on the show. That month, he also joined the virtual marriage show We Got Married with Solar from Mamamoo as his partner. June 2016 saw the release of Nam’s debut US single  "Into You" - a collaboration with the electronic band KOLAJ. The following month, he released the digital single "Can't Help Myself" featuring AOMG rapper Loco. 

That November, he became the host of the new Mnet's talk show Yang and Nam Show with comedian Yang Se-hyung and at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards he premiered "Body", his collaboration with Grammy award-winning producer Timbaland.

2017’s "Cave Me In" (a collaboration with Gallant and Tablo) premiered worldwide on Zayn Lowe's Beats 1 Radio Show and was trending globally on YouTube and Facebook for over 72 hours upon release. Further collaborations came with "Hello" from  Seohyun's WP Don't Say No, "You, Who?" with Jeon So-mi, and Arty’s single "Idea of You". That August, he performed three shows in New York City and Atlanta that sold out in one minute during the presale. This led to the extra date in Atlanta and a larger venue in New York.

2018-2019: Honestly and North American Tour

Nam was named as an Honorary Ambassador at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. He also featured on NBC primetime, providing a detailed and thorough look into K-pop with interviewers Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.

Preceded by singles "Honestly" and "Potion" (featuring Woodie GoChild) two days previous, he released his third EP, Honestly, on April 11, 2018. The EP debuted at number 6 on the Billboard World Albums chart. Throughout June, Nam embarked on the Honestly tour – a 15-show North American headlining stint. In July, his song "Float" featured on the soundtrack for the box office number one film Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. He also featured on a remix for "Your Side of the Bed" with pop duo Loote.

2019-present: Before We Begin, World Tour, and The Other Side

In May 2019, Nam released the digital single “Runaway” and the following month he debuted his weekly podcast show K-Pop Daebak w/ Eric Nam, which was rated as “New & Noteworthy” and featured in the “Best Listens of 2019” by Apple Podcasts, as well as “Top 10 Music Podcasts” by Spotify.

His debut English EP, Before We Begin, was released on November 14, 2019 with "Congratulations (Feat. Marc E. Bassy)" as the title track. The next month, he began his second podcast, I Think You're Dope w/ Eric Nam, which reached number one on the Music Podcast Charts in over 25 countries including the US, U.K., and South Korea.

January 2020 saw the launch of Nam’s first official World Tour, spanning 34 cities across Asia, North America, and Latin America. The Latin American and Los Angeles dates of the tour were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nam’s fourth EP, The Other Side, was released in July 2020, featuring the title track "The Other Side" and the lead single "Paradise", which were hits in South Korea and several other Asian countries.

In May 2021, "Echo", a collaboration with Indian singer and composer Armaan Malik and Indian-American composer Kshmr, was released. Nam's contract with CJ ENM expired on June 4, 2021 and his debut independently-released single, "I Don't Know You Anymore," came out on October 15.
